Panic spread across parts of Punjab after two explosions were reported near security establishments in Jalandhar and Amritsar. The incidents, which took place within hours of each other, occurred close to locations linked with the Border Security Force. While no casualties have been reported so far, the events have raised serious concerns, prompting a high alert across the state. The Punjab Police, along with central agencies, has launched a detailed investigation to find out the exact cause.
The first explosion took place in Jalandhar near the BSF headquarters at BSF Chowk. According to initial information, a parked scooter suddenly exploded in a busy area. Soon after the blast, the vehicle caught fire and was engulfed in flames. Eyewitnesses said the explosion created panic, and people nearby rushed away from the spot to ensure their safety. Despite the intensity of the incident, no injuries were reported.
Authorities began examining the site immediately after the blast. CCTV footage from the area has become an important part of the investigation. Visuals accessed later showed the exact moment of the explosion. Flames were seen erupting instantly, and debris scattered across the road. A man standing near the scooter was seen running away just after the blast. Officials believe that some of the fragments seen in the footage could be parts of the scooter itself.
Jalandhar Police Commissioner Dhanpreet Kaur stated that the situation is still being assessed and no conclusions can be drawn at this stage. “Prima facie, the facts are that a scooter parked here caught fire. We are still verifying the situation on the ground,” she said. She also confirmed that investigators are looking at all possible angles and collecting evidence.
As part of the inquiry, the scooter driver and another individual are being questioned. CCTV recordings from nearby areas are also being reviewed to understand the sequence of events. The rider has been identified as 22-year-old Gurpreet Singh. According to a relative, he works as a delivery agent and regularly visits the area to drop parcels. On the day of the incident, he had parked his scooter and was approaching it when it suddenly caught fire. The relative added that Gurpreet immediately called his father to inform him about what had happened.
Meanwhile, hours after the Jalandhar incident, a second explosion was reported late on Tuesday night in Amritsar. The blast took place in the Khasa area outside an Army camp located near BSF installations. The site is around 15 kilometres from the Attari-Wagah international border, which adds to the sensitivity of the situation.
Preliminary inputs suggest that the explosion may have been caused by a motorcycle-borne attacker who allegedly threw a grenade at the location. However, officials have not confirmed this yet, and the matter is still under investigation. Police and Army personnel quickly reached the site after the incident to secure the area and begin initial checks.
Amritsar Rural Police SP Aditya Warrier confirmed the timing of the explosion and said it occurred between 10.30 pm and 11 pm. He stated, “We are verifying the exact details. Forensic teams are also at the site and all aspects are being examined,” indicating that authorities are carefully examining every possible detail.
Following both incidents, security has been increased across Punjab, especially near sensitive locations and border areas. Forensic teams, along with dog squads and bomb detection units, have been deployed at the sites to assist in the investigation. Officials are working to determine whether the two incidents are connected or separate events.
Political reactions have also begun to emerge after the blasts. Amrinder Singh Raja Warring, chief of the Punjab Congress, expressed concern over the situation and criticised the handling of security. He described the explosion near the BSF headquarters as alarming and raised questions about law and order in the state.
In a post on X, he said, "A blast in a delivery scooter in a crowded area exposes a serious collapse of law and order. Punjab is a sensitive border state; such incidents raise grave national security concerns. Yet, while the AAP-led Punjab government is busy parading its MLAs before the President, the BJP-led Centre is equally distracted and failing in its responsibility to ensure security. People deserve safety, not political theatre."
Officials, however, have maintained that it is too early to link the incidents to any larger conspiracy. Police Commissioner Dhanpreet Kaur reiterated that the investigation is ongoing and no final conclusions have been reached. “We cannot confirm anything at the moment. We are investigating from all angles. If any new details emerge, we will share them,” she was quoted as saying.
She also noted that the scooter driver is cooperating fully with the investigation. Based on his initial statement, the vehicle caught fire suddenly, but authorities are continuing to verify all aspects of the case. The exact cause of the explosion remains unclear, and officials are relying on forensic evidence and technical analysis to determine what happened.
At this stage, authorities have not confirmed the nature of either explosion. Investigations are still underway, and security agencies are working to gather more information. The back-to-back incidents have heightened alertness across Punjab, especially given the proximity of the locations to key security installations.
The situation remains under close watch as officials continue their probe. With no confirmed cause yet, both incidents are being treated with seriousness, and further updates are expected as the investigation progresses.
