Amidst increasing public outcry, members of the Hindu community and traders in Dera Murad Jamali staged a street protest condemning the recent abduction of a young girl, Priya Kumari, and demanded immediate action for her recovery, as reported by Dawn.
Protesters criticised the Sindh government for what they perceived as incompetence, expressing frustration over its failure to locate and rescue Kumari, who was abducted from Sukkur just days ago.
As per Dawn's report, demonstrators, holding placards, vehemently condemned what they described as the routine abduction of innocent children in Sindh. They also highlighted the deteriorating security conditions for religious minorities in the region.
Senior Hindu community figures Mukhi Manak Lal and Seth Tara Chand led the rally, which attracted participants from various sectors of society. Notable attendees included Taj Baloch, representing traders, Liaqat Ali Chakar from JI’s youth wing, Mir Jan Mengal, president of the wholesale market, Molana Nawabuddin Domki, Khan Jan Bangulazi, and Harpal Das.
The leaders urged Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah to take immediate and decisive action to ensure the safe return of the girl and to deliver justice to the minority community. They issued a stern warning of nationwide protests if their demands go unheeded.
Meanwhile, Human Rights Focus Pakistan (HRFP) strongly condemned the religious persecution of minorities in Pakistan and urged the next government to enact legislation of equal status for all communities.
HRFP highlighted that individuals from various religious minorities, including Christians, Hindus, Ahmadiyyas, Sikhs, and others, have been victimised in different attacks during the last few months.
Human Rights Focus Pakistan (HRFP) is a non-governmental organisation (NGO) that was established in 1994. Its mission is to promote and protect human rights, with a special focus on religious minorities, women, and children.
HRFP emphasized the need for newly elected representatives and the government to enact legislation ensuring equal status for all citizens in accordance with the vision and principles of Pakistan's founder, Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
"The recent cases add to the ongoing suffering, further increasing the vulnerability of minorities," HRFP stated.
Naveed Walter, President of Human Rights Focus Pakistan (HRFP), highlighted that within the short duration of the year, several alarming incidents have been reported.
