A projectile strike near the perimeter of Iran’s Bushehr nuclear power plant on Saturday morning, resulted in the death of one security personnel, according to Iran’s Tasnimnews agency. The incident occurred close to the facility but did not directly impact its main operational sections. 

As per the report, the projectile hit an area near the plant’s boundary, causing damage to an auxiliary building. However, the core infrastructure of the nuclear facility remained intact. Authorities confirmed that the plant’s operations and electricity production were not affected by the incident. 

The Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant, located in southern Iran along the Persian Gulf, holds significant importance as it is the country’s first and only operational commercial nuclear power station. Despite the proximity of the strike, officials indicated that the situation at the facility remains stable, with no disruption to its functioning. 

The casualty reported was a member of the plant’s security staff, highlighting the human cost of the incident even though critical infrastructure was spared. The damage was limited to a nearby structure, suggesting that the projectile did not penetrate sensitive or high-risk zones within the facility. 

This development comes amid rising tensions in the region. Just days before the incident, US President Donald Trump had issued a warning directed at Iran, suggesting possible strikes on key infrastructure. His statement pointed to potential targets such as bridges and electric power facilities, indicating a broader escalation in the ongoing conflict. 

Trump, in a post on Truth Social on Thursday (local time), said the US military "hasn't even started destroying what's left in Iran." The statement signalled an intensification of military posture and hinted at further actions under Operation Epic Fury, which reportedly began on February 28. 

The timing of the projectile strike has drawn attention due to these earlier remarks. While no direct link has been officially confirmed, the sequence of events suggests a period of heightened military and political tension involving Iran and the United States. 

Despite the seriousness of the situation, the absence of damage to the nuclear reactor itself has prevented a larger crisis. Nuclear facilities are highly sensitive sites, and any attack in their vicinity raises concerns about safety and potential environmental risks. In this case, however, officials maintained that the plant continues to function normally.
