A pro-Khalistani group has taken responsibility for a blast that occurred near a CRPF school in New Delhi’s Rohini area on Sunday, sparking alarm across the capital. According to officials, the Delhi Police have reached out to social media platforms and Telegram, seeking information about the channel where the claim was made.
The explosion, which caused significant damage to nearby buildings and vehicles, tore through the wall of the school in Prashant Vihar. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. The Delhi Police are now investigating the possibility of a Khalistani link after a Telegram post suggested that the attack was in retaliation for the alleged targeting of pro-Khalistan activists by Indian agents.
Authorities have requested details from Telegram about a channel called ‘Justice League India,’ where a video of the blast appeared. The video featured a watermark that read “Khalistan Zindabad” along with a message threatening further attacks. The message stated, "If Indian coward agency and their master think they can hire filthy goons to target our members to silence our voice then they live in fools world. They can't imagine how close we are to them and how capable we are to strike anytime #KhalistanZindabad #JLI."
The explosion occurred in the context of ongoing tensions between India and Khalistani separatists, particularly following recent diplomatic strains with Canada over alleged anti-India activities by these groups.
According to police sources, the blast was caused by a low-intensity IED (Improvised Explosive Device) set off by either a timer or remote control. There were no shrapnel or ball bearings used in the device, but it managed to damage part of the school wall, shatter windows in nearby shops, and damage several vehicles. The sound of the explosion was heard from several hundred meters away.
Senior police officials believe that the explosion may have been intended as a warning to the authorities. Following the incident, the area was quickly sealed off by teams from the National Investigation Agency (NIA), National Security Guard (NSG), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and Delhi Police. Forensic teams were deployed to gather evidence at the scene.
As of now, Telegram has not yet responded to the police request for information about the ‘Justice League India’ channel. The investigation is ongoing.
