Despite the growing serious crisis in Kolkata, it is apparent that the President's rule is not the probable measure of the central government. The government sources stated that there is no such thought by the Centre for imposing President's Rule in West Bengal. This comes after the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) recently held its meeting at Palakkad earlier this month, where it raised no favour towards the President's rule in the state terming it as a measure that destabilises an elected government.
Protests in Kolkata, the capital of Bengal, have been simmering for more than a month since the heinous rape and murder case at RG Kar hospital, with doctors and the public stepping up in protest. Last week, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also said she would resign if that eases the situation.
As far as the Manipur crisis is concerned, sources claim that the reason behind the latest unrest in the state of Manipur has been the decision to replace the Assam Rifles with CRPF which has upset the Kuki community. After three days of discussion, one battalion of Assam Rifles has already left Manipur, and the other will leave in the next few days. A source has stated that the situation in Manipur is under control now.
With respect to the terror attacks in Jammu, the topography of the region had been a challenge earlier. However, with the completion of security installations, nearly 30,000 "well-intentioned" villagers have been given training in arms as well. According to a source, the situation in Jammu had come under control in the last month. Earlier, the terrorists had targeted the Kashmir Valley. Then they shifted their focus to Jammu, but the government was all prepared.
