President Droupadi Murmu on Monday announced a major gubernatorial reshuffle, appointing four new governors and transferring two others to different states. The Rashtrapati Bhavan issued a statement confirming the appointments.
Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, the outgoing Governor of Keralam, will now serve as the Governor of Tamil Nadu. Om Prakash Mathur, who held the gubernatorial post in Sikkim, has been appointed the Governor of Keralam.
Among the new appointments, former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national general secretary Dushyant Gautam will become the Governor of Sikkim. Former Lok Sabha MP Mohan Ram has been appointed Governor of Odisha. Sudha Yadav, a parliamentary board member and former Lok Sabha MP, will take charge as Governor of Karnataka. Former Madhya Pradesh minister Dhal Singh Bisen has been appointed Governor of Uttarakhand.
The appointments reflect the BJP-led Union government's social engineering strategy. Two of the new governors, Sudha Yadav and Dhal Singh Bisen, belong to the Other Backward Classes (OBC) community. Mohan Ram and Dushyant Gautam are Dalit leaders who have held electoral and organisational positions.
Yadav served as a Lok Sabha member from 1994 to 2004, representing the Mahendragarh constituency in Haryana.
Bisen served as a legislator for four terms before becoming a cabinet minister in Madhya Pradesh.
Mohan Ram represented the Palamu constituency in Jharkhand in the Lok Sabha three times. He first won the seat in 1996. He was also elected to the Bihar Assembly when Jharkhand was part of Bihar.
Gautam contested the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections but lost. In 2020, he was elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from Haryana.
