Another attempt to derail a train was reported in Gujarat’s Surat district. On Saturday, a trackman found that the fishplates and keys of the railway tracks had been removed, raising concerns about possible plans by anti-national groups to cause a derailment. The incident occurred early Saturday near the Kim Junction railway station when the trackman was inspecting the tracks around 5 A.M. and noticed the tampering.
The Station Master and the Railway Protection Force (RPF) were quickly informed, and repairs were done fast to avoid any train service interruptions, officials said. This incident comes after several recent attempts to disrupt train operations were recorded in recent times.
Prior to this, on September 10, offenders tried to derail a train in Ajmer, Rajasthan, by placing two heavy cement blocks, each weighing about 100 kg, on the tracks between Saradhana and Bangadh. In which a goods train was reported to have hit one of the blocks. However, no serious damage was reported during the collision.
The day before, on September 9, there was another attempt was made. An LPG cylinder, a bottle of petrol, and matchboxes were found on the tracks near Kanpur. This was meant to derail the Bhiwani-Prayagraj Kalindi Express. The train driver managed to use the emergency brakes just in time to prevent a serious accident. Investigators found some worrying items at the scene, such as matchsticks, a petrol bottle, and a bag of gunpowder, suggesting there was a bigger plot involved.
There have been several attempts to derail trains in the country recently.
On August 27, four coaches derailed in the Udhna Railway Yard near Surat due to heavy rains. Earlier, on August 17, about 20 coaches of the Sabarmati Express derailed near Kanpur Railway Station in Uttar Pradesh after hitting a boulder, causing serious damage. These incidents raise concerns about train safety in the country. Authorities are investigating and working to prevent future sabotage of Indian Railways.
