India’s first semiconductor chip maker is set to launch a Semiconductor Chips and Advanced Packaging Unit in Nava Raipur, Chhattisgarh. Chennai-based Polymatech Electronics will establish the plant to manufacture Gallium Nitride (GaN) semiconductor chips, which play a key role in powering 5G and future 6G technologies. On April 11, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai will perform the ‘Bhoomipujan’ and lay the foundation stone for the unit. The project involves an investment of ₹1,143 crore and is expected to create job opportunities for people in the state.
Emphasising the investment opportunities in the semiconductor and electronics industry, the Chief Minister stated, "The state is ready to offer policy support, tax incentives, infrastructure development and special facilities to the electronic and semiconductor sector under the Make in India and Digital India campaign."
The state government’s initiative aligns with the central government’s goal of encouraging high-tech industries and supporting deep-tech innovation and scientific progress in India. As part of its ‘Investor Connect’ event in New Delhi last December, the Chhattisgarh government extended an investment invitation to Polymatech Electronic, a company with a global footprint in the U.S. and Bahrain. Semiconductors, considered the foundation of digital technology, play a critical role across the entire IT sector.
“Chhattisgarh government acted swiftly to ensure the set-up of the facility, with the company allotted 1,50,000 square feet land area at Sector-5 Nava Raipur, through a tender process by Nava Raipur Development Authority. The public-private partnership aims at positioning Chhattisgarh as a key hub in India’s semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem”, the official spokesperson briefed The New Indian Express.
“As India accelerates toward becoming a global semiconductor powerhouse, with demand projected to reach $64 billion by 2026 and $110 billion by 2030 (approximately 10% of global consumption), this facility aligns with the nation’s Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India initiatives. It will reduce import dependency while strengthening domestic manufacturing capabilities,” spoke the Managing Director & CEO (Polymatech Electronic), Eswara Rao Nandam.
The state government's progressive industrial policy seems aimed at drawing in high-tech manufacturing projects.
"The collaboration is expected to boost Chhattisgarh’s capabilities in global semiconductor manufacturing," expressed Rajat Kumar, commerce and industry department secretary.
