In a strong response following the BJP's impressive victory in Haryana, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took aim at the Congress party and its leader, Rahul Gandhi. He accused Gandhi of attempting to divide Hindus, particularly in relation to the ongoing discussion around caste census. The Prime Minister noted that Congress only discusses Hindu castes while avoiding the subject of castes within the Muslim community.
Reflecting on the recent Haryana election results, which favoured the BJP for a third consecutive term, Modi remarked, "Haryana has reflected the mood of the country by blessing the BJP." He condemned Congress’s "urban-naxalite" supporters for spreading false narratives to sow discord among the populace, but he noted that the public has seen through these tactics. The BJP’s victory in Haryana marks a significant political shift, especially considering the anti-incumbency sentiments that were expected to favour Congress.
Modi stated, "Congress has always followed the formula of 'divide and gain power'." He stated that the party has a history of creating a division to maintain its voter base, claiming, "Congress keeps bringing formulas to divide society." He pointed out that the party's strategy is to instil fear among Muslims to convert them into a reliable voting bloc.
The Prime Minister further elaborated on Congress’s tactics, saying, "The policy of Congress is to make one caste of Hindus fight against another caste. The more Hindus get divided, the more Congress benefits." He accused the party of wanting to keep Hindu society in turmoil to gain political advantage, asserting that their approach to elections is rooted in communal and caste-based divisions.
Modi also criticised Congress for undermining India's traditions of unity and well-being, stating, "It is suppressing the Sanatan tradition." He remarked that the party, once in power for many decades, is now desperate to reclaim authority. He recalled how Mahatma Gandhi recognised Congress’s negative intentions early on and sought to dismantle the party.
