Indian Navy Day, dedicated to acknowledging the Indian Navy's role and accomplishments, is marked annually. The date, with historical importance, honours 'Operation Trident' during the 1971 Indo-Pak War. This year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is slated to participate in Navy Day celebrations at Sindhudurg in Maharashtra, featuring operational demonstrations by the naval forces. The event aims to present the Indian Navy's cutting-edge ships and aircraft to the public and online viewers through a live telecast.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled the statue of Maratha king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj at the Rajkot Fort in Maharashtra's Sindhudurg. He actively participated in a traditional event marking the Navy Day 2023 celebrations at Sindhudurg, where he observed operational demonstrations by Indian Navy ships, submarines, aircraft, and Special Forces from the Tarkarli beach.
Each year, the Navy Day celebrations at Sindhudurg pay tribute to the rich maritime heritage of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, whose seal served as inspiration for the new naval ensign adopted last year.
The operational demonstrations provide the public with the opportunity to observe the diverse aspects of multi-domain operations executed by the Indian Navy. According to a previous statement, it emphasizes the Navy's role in national security, fostering maritime awareness among citizens.
During the Navy Day celebrations in Sindhudurg, Maharashtra PM Modi said, “I extend my wishes to the members of the Indian Navy on Navy Day. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj knew the importance of strength in the sea for any country.”
PM Narendra Modi conveyed Navy Day greetings, acknowledging the unwavering dedication and love for the nation exhibited by navy personnel in safeguarding India's seas. PM posted on X, “This place has a close association with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, whose efforts to build a strong navy are well known.”
“On Navy Day, best wishes to all the personnel of the Indian Navy. Their commitment to safeguarding our seas is a testament to their unwavering dedication to duty and love for our nation. In every circumstance, their spirit and resolve remain unshakable. We are forever grateful.”
In a significant display, the Indian Navy is set to feature the involvement of 20 warships and 40 aircraft, including MiG-29K and LCA Navy. The event's highlights encompass combat beach reconnaissance and an assault demonstration conducted by the Marine Commandos of the Indian Navy.
"This is the first time that the Indian Navy will be organising a mega event that is not taking place at any major naval station. The location of the Sindhudurg Fort is 550 km from Mumbai and about 135 km from the naval station at Goa. All out efforts have been made by the Navy, along with the state government and local administration, to showcase these events," the Navy said in a release.
