Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that physical distance does not weaken cultural bonds as he received a warm and traditional welcome from the Indian diaspora at the Alvear Palace Hotel in Buenos Aires in Argentina.
Posting on the social media platform X, PM Modi wrote, "Distance is no barrier when it comes to cultural connect! Grateful to the warm welcome by Indian community in Buenos Aires. It is heartening to see how, away from home thousands of kilometers, the spirit of India glows brightly through our Indian community."
Members of the Indian diaspora welcomed the Prime Minister with loud chants of "Modi-Modi", "Jai Hind" and "Bharat Mata Ki Jai" which created a powerful and vibrant atmosphere on Friday evening.
The welcome ceremony included a traditional Indian classical dance performance that highlighted the richness of India’s cultural heritage.
Members of the Indian community also got a chance to meet Prime Minister Modi and many of them received his signature which added a personal touch and made the event more memorable.
This warm welcome from the Indian diaspora came soon after PM Modi arrived at Ezeiza International Airport where he was given a ceremonial reception.
His two-day visit to Argentina is the first official bilateral visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the country in 57 years which makes it a significant moment in diplomatic relations.
"Arrived in Buenos Aires for a bilateral visit that will be centered on boosting ties with Argentina. I look forward to meeting President Javier Milei and having in-depth discussions with him," PM Modi tweeted on his official X handle.
During his visit PM Modi will offer his respects at the statue of General Jose de San Martin who is regarded as a national hero in Argentina. He will also receive a ceremonial welcome and take part in delegation-level talks with President Milei followed by a lunch in his honour.
This visit is part of Prime Minister Modi’s five-country tour that focuses on strengthening partnerships with countries in the Global South.
