Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Andhra Pradesh on Thursday for a packed schedule of inaugurations and foundation-laying ceremonies. During his visit, he will inaugurate and lay the foundation stones for projects worth Rs 13,430 crore.
These projects span key sectors including industry, power transmission, roads, railways, defence production, and petroleum and natural gas.
He will also attend the “Super GST Super Savings” event in Kurnool.
In a post on X on Wednesday, Modi wrote, “I will pray at the Sri Bhramaramba Mallikarjuna Swamy Varla Devasthanam in Srisailam,” on October 16.
“Then I will be in Kurnool, where development projects worth more than Rs 13,400 crores will be opened or their foundation stones will be laid. These works include areas such as power, railways, petroleum, defence, industries and others,” the prime minister said.
Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu received Modi at Kurnool Airport around 10 am. After his arrival, Modi visited the Sri Bhramaramba Mallikarjuna Swamy Varla Devasthanam temple in Srisailam in the Nandyal district to offer prayers. He visited the Sree Shivaji Spoorthi Kendra in Srisailam before heading to Kurnool for the foundation and inauguration ceremonies.
Among the major projects, Modi laid the foundation for the Transmission System Strengthening project at Kurnool-III Pooling Station, involving an investment of more than Rs 2,880 crore. This project includes the construction of a 765 KV double-circuit Kurnool-III Pooling Station–Chilakaluripeta transmission line, which will increase transformation capacity by 6,000 MVA and enable large-scale transmission of renewable energy.
He also laid the foundation stones for the Orvakal Industrial Area in Kurnool and the Kopparthy Industrial Area in Kadapa, together expected to attract investments of over Rs 4,920 crore. Jointly developed by the National Industrial Corridor Development and Implementation Trust and the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation, these industrial hubs will feature plug-and-play facilities and a walk-to-work design. These new industrial parks are expected to bring in investments of around Rs 21,000 crore and generate about one lakh jobs, giving a significant boost to industrial growth in the Rayalaseema region.
The prime minister also laid the foundation for a six-lane greenfield highway between Sabbavaram and Sheelanagar, to be built at a cost of over Rs 960 crore. The project is aimed at reducing traffic congestion in Visakhapatnam and promoting trade and employment. He inaugurated the four-laning of the Pileru–Kalur section, the widening of the Kadapa–Nellore border to CS Puram road, and the four-lane Rail Over Bridge between Gudivada and Nujella Railway Stations on NH-165. Other road projects include the Kanigiri Bypass on NH-565 and the upgraded bypass section at N Gundlapalli Town on NH-544DD.
Modi also laid the foundation and inaugurated several railway projects worth over Rs 1,200 crore. These include the Kothavalasa–Vizianagaram Fourth Railway Line, the Rail Flyover between Pendurti and Simhachalam North, and the doubling of the Kottavalasa–Boddavara and Shimiliguda–Gorapur sections.
In the energy sector, Modi inaugurated the Srikakulam–Angul Natural Gas Pipeline built by GAIL India Limited at a cost of around Rs 1,730 crore. The pipeline runs about 124 km through Andhra Pradesh and 298 km through Odisha. He also inaugurated Indian Oil’s new LPG bottling plant at Chittoor, which has a capacity of 60 TMTPA and has been constructed at a cost of around Rs 200 crore.
Additionally, Modi inaugurated the Advanced Night Vision Products Factory at Nimmaluru in Krishna district, established by Bharat Electronics Limited with an investment of nearly Rs 360 crore.
During his recent visit to Delhi, Chief Minister Naidu had invited Modi to attend the “Super GST – Super Savings” programme in Kurnool. The GST Council recently approved a series of reforms, reducing taxes on a range of daily-use goods, including hair oil, corn flakes, and health and life insurance policies.
“The future Super GST Super Savings event at Kurnool will commemorate the people's fervor and admiration for this futuristic initiative, and it was my honor to invite him (PM Modi) to attend this event personally,” Naidu said in a recent social media post. Naidu added that the prime minister will speak about how these GST reforms will benefit people.
He also instructed officials to make arrangements for Modi to lay the foundation for ‘Drone City’ as part of his visit to Srisailam on October 16.
After completing his engagements, Naidu gave send-off to the prime minister at Kurnool Airport around 4.40 pm on Thursday.
