PM Modi lays foundation for Ken-Betwa River linking project lauds Ambedkar’s vision on water management

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while laying the foundation stone for the Ken-Betwa River linking project in Khajuraho, Madhya Pradesh, accused the Congress party of disregarding Dr. BR Ambedkar’s significant contributions to India’s water resource management. Speaking at the event, Modi highlighted that water security is critical for a nation's progress in the 21st century and praised Ambedkar's vision in this regard.
Modi emphasised Ambedkar’s role in the development of major river valley projects and the establishment of the Central Water Commission, acknowledging his foresight in water management and dam construction. He criticised the Congress party for failing to recognise Ambedkar’s contributions as a water conservationist and for neglecting the growing need for water conservation in the country.
The Prime Minister’s remarks came amidst the ongoing controversy over Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s statements about Ambedkar, which sparked protests by the Congress party nationwide.
During the program, Modi also virtually inaugurated the Omkareshwar Floating Solar Project in Khandwa district and laid the foundation stone of the Daudhan Irrigation Project, an integral part of the Ken-Betwa river-linking initiative. Highlighting water security as a key challenge of the century, he stressed the need for effective management of water resources to ensure sustainable development.

The Prime Minister stated that Ambedkar was instrumental in the development of major river valley projects and the establishment of the Central Water Commission. He lauded his foresight in water management and infrastructure development. Modi criticised the Congress party for neglecting Ambedkar’s legacy as a water conservationist and overlooking the urgent need for water conservation initiatives across the country.
The remarks came amidst nationwide protests by the Congress in response to controversial statements made by Union Home Minister Amit Shah about Ambedkar, further intensifying the political discourse.
