Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday virtually inaugurated several development projects in Maharashtra, worth over Rs 7,600 crore. Among these, the foundation stones for the upgradation of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport in Nagpur and a new Integrated Terminal Building at Shirdi Airport were laid through a video conference.
In his address, PM Modi emphasised the rapid development taking place in Maharashtra under his government. He stated that the state had never witnessed such a large-scale pace of growth before. Comparing this current scenario to the Congress era, he added, "Maharashtra has never before experienced development on such a large scale. During the Congress-led administration, the state faced widespread corruption across various sectors."
One of the key projects is the Nagpur airport upgrade, which will cost around Rs 7,000 crore. This development is expected to boost the region’s manufacturing, aviation, tourism, logistics, and healthcare sectors, benefiting Nagpur and the Vidarbha region. The new Integrated Terminal Building at Shirdi Airport, costing Rs 645 crore, will offer modern facilities to the large number of religious tourists visiting the area. The terminal’s design will be inspired by the spiritual Neem tree associated with Sai Baba.
In addition, PM Modi announced the launch of ten new government medical colleges in various cities, including Mumbai, Nashik, Amravati, and Bhandara. These colleges aim to improve medical education and healthcare services across Maharashtra, particularly in underserved areas.
He also spoke about other infrastructure projects, mentioning that metro systems are expanding, and various initiatives in sectors like solar energy and textiles are underway. PM Modi also highlighted the foundation for Vadhavan Port, which will be India’s largest container port.
During the event, the Prime Minister also touched on the recent election results in Haryana and Jammu & Kashmir, celebrating the BJP’s third consecutive term in Haryana. He criticised Congress for misleading the public and praised the BJP’s efforts for farmers, youth, and Dalits. "Congress has long misled the Dalit community. They have tried to take away their rights for their own political gains. But now, the Dalits have seen through this, and we have their unwavering support.”
PM Modi also proudly announced that Marathi had been granted classical language status, “This has been a dream for millions of Maharashtrians, and it has finally been realised. I have been receiving messages from across the state, celebrating this achievement,” he stated. He further launched the Indian Institute of Skills (IIS) in Mumbai, which will focus on training people in advanced technologies like robotics, artificial intelligence, and data analytics.
In conclusion, PM Modi said that Maharashtra’s rich heritage, natural beauty, and spiritual centres hold great potential for economic growth and development.
