Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday laid the foundation stone and launched several projects in Hazaribagh, Jharkhand, with a total worth of over Rs 83,300 crore. This visit is his second trip to Jharkhand in just 17 days, following his earlier visit to Jamshedpur on September 15. Prime Minister Modi wrote on the BJP's official account, “Today, once again, I have the privilege of being a participant in the development journey of Jharkhand. I came to Jamshedpur a few days ago, where I launched development projects worth hundreds of crores of rupees for Jharkhand.”
The Prime Minister also added, “Thousands of poor people in Jharkhand received their own pucca houses under the PM Awas Yojana. Now, within a few days, the foundation stone and inauguration of development projects worth more than Rs 80 thousand crore have been completed in Jharkhand today. These schemes are related to the welfare and upliftment of tribal society.”
With an investment of over Rs 2,800 crore, the Prime Minister dedicated 40 Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) and laid the groundwork for 25 more EMRS to improve the educational infrastructure for tribal communities. Over 5 crore tribal people will directly benefit from this programme, which will encompass about 63,000 villages spread across 549 districts and 2,740 blocks in 30 states and Union Territories, according to the Prime Minister's Office.
With a total budget of more than Rs 79,150 crore, the Prime Minister also introduced the Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan scheme. PM Modi met with the tribal community in Ranchi, according to party sources, and then travelled to Gandhi Maidan in Hazaribagh to attend the Parivartan Yatra's closing ceremony.
Before PM Modi arrived, former chief minister of Jharkhand Champai Soren had noted earlier in the day how enthusiastic the people were to welcome the PM. The current government of Jharkhand is scheduled to conclude in January 2025, and elections for its 81-member legislative assembly are anticipated by December 2024.
The election schedule has not yet been released by the Election Commission. The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha secured 30 seats, the Bharatiya Janata Party won 25, and the Congress won 16 in the 2020 assembly election. Today, on the eve of the "Swachhata Hi Seva" campaign's tenth anniversary, Prime Minister Modi declared that the "Swachh Bharat Mission" is the largest and most prosperous global movement of this century, one that the public will remember for many years to come. He underlined that public leadership and participation in the Swachh Bharat Mission have reflected the energy of the people.
Speaking on Wednesday at a gathering at Vigyan Bhawan in Delhi, Prime Minister Modi said, “A thousand years from now, when studies are conducted about India in the 21st century, the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan will be remembered. In this century, Swachh Bharat is the world’s biggest and most successful people’s resolution, led and joined by the people.” He said that our country will shine more the more successful the Swachh Bharat Mission is in the nation.
In India, the Swachhta Abhiyan is a national initiative to end open defecation and promote cleanliness and hygiene. On October 2, 2014, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the campaign. From the Red Fort's ramparts, Prime Minister Modi gave a stirring speech on August 15, 2014, urging people to support the national effort to make cleanliness a priority. As a result, on October 2, 2014, the Swachh Bharat Mission was introduced, adopting a "whole-of-government" strategy to make sanitation everyone's responsibility.
