Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated development projects worth about ₹4,570 crore in Kokrajhar district of Assam on Friday. During the event, he also flagged off three new train services aimed at improving railway connectivity in the region. The projects were launched ahead of the upcoming assembly elections in the state and are expected to strengthen infrastructure and transportation facilities. The initiatives are part of the government’s broader plan to accelerate development and improve connectivity in the northeastern region of the country.
The prime minister addressed a large public gathering in Kokrajhar, where he highlighted the importance of development in the region. He said the government is committed to improving infrastructure and ensuring better opportunities for the people of Assam. According to him, the newly launched projects are expected to enhance transportation networks and boost economic activity in the area. He emphasised that the government is working to ensure that development reaches even the remote parts of the country.
As part of the programme, Modi flagged off three new train services that will strengthen rail connectivity in the region. These train services are expected to make travel easier for passengers and support the movement of goods between different parts of the country. Improved rail connectivity will also help people in the northeastern states access other regions more conveniently, while encouraging trade and tourism. The introduction of these trains is expected to play an important role in improving the overall transportation infrastructure in the area.
The development projects launched during the visit span multiple sectors with a focus on infrastructure and connectivity. By investing in such large-scale projects, the government aims to create better facilities for residents and promote economic development. Infrastructure development is considered essential for improving daily life and creating new opportunities for employment and business growth. These projects are expected to contribute significantly to the region’s long-term progress.
During his speech, the prime minister highlighted the transformation taking place in the northeastern states over the past few years. He said that the region, which earlier faced various challenges related to connectivity and development, is now witnessing steady progress. According to him, the central government has placed strong emphasis on building roads, railways, and other key infrastructure projects in the region. These initiatives are meant to bring the Northeast closer to the rest of the country and strengthen economic integration.
Modi also said that improved connectivity will help the local population access better education, healthcare, and business opportunities. By strengthening transportation networks, the government hopes to support local industries and encourage investment in the region. He explained that infrastructure development is a crucial step in ensuring inclusive growth and improving the quality of life for people living in the northeastern states.
The prime minister’s visit and the launch of these projects come at a time when Assam is preparing for its upcoming assembly elections. Political observers see development initiatives like these as an important part of the government’s efforts to showcase progress and gain public support. The projects are expected to play a significant role in improving the state’s infrastructure and strengthening connectivity with other parts of India.
