PM Modi inaugurates new Nalanda University campus in Rajgir, Bihar

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, speaking on Wednesday, highlighted the significance of reviving Nalanda University as a pivotal moment heralding India's 'Golden Age'. Following the inauguration of the new campus in Rajgir, he expressed satisfaction in visiting Nalanda shortly after assuming office for the third time as Prime Minister.
Modi underscored Nalanda's profound symbolism, describing it not merely as a name but as a mantra and an embodiment of resilience—where despite fires that may destroy books, knowledge endures. He asserted that the revival of Nalanda would initiate a new era of prosperity for India.
The Prime Minister emphasised that the reawakening of Nalanda through its new campus would showcase India's capabilities to the world. He articulated that Nalanda's legacy transcends national boundaries, serving as a shared heritage of numerous countries in Asia and beyond.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the international significance of Nalanda University, stating that its heritage extends far beyond India's borders. He acknowledged the contributions of partner countries in the reconstruction efforts of Nalanda University and conveyed gratitude to India's friendly nations on this occasion.
Reflecting on Nalanda's historical role, Modi emphasised its status as a pinnacle of India's educational identity. He underscored the universality of education, transcending boundaries of nationality and commercial interests, and noted that in ancient times, students from diverse backgrounds sought knowledge at Nalanda University.
Turning to International Yoga Day, observed annually on June 21, the Prime Minister celebrated its global recognition. He praised the ancient roots of yoga in India, remarking on the extensive research conducted by sages, which has led to its widespread adoption worldwide. Modi highlighted that yoga, with its diverse forms, has become a unifying global celebration.
Discussing his vision for India, Modi expressed his aspiration to position the country as a global hub of education and knowledge. He affirmed India's commitment to progress while maintaining environmental sustainability, illustrating the country's balanced approach to development.

Modi underscored Nalanda University's pioneering role as India's first campus designed on the principles of Net Zero energy, emissions, and waste. He described the campus's philosophy of 'Be your own light' as a guiding principle for global sustainability initiatives.
Referring to the 21st century as the Asian century, the Prime Minister outlined Nalanda University's strategic focus on enhancing cultural exchange programmes, particularly with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). He highlighted initiatives such as the Documentation of various artworks from India and Southeast Asia and the establishment of a Common Archival Resources Centre at Nalanda University.
Modi also noted the active participation of leading global institutions in Nalanda University's initiatives, underscoring its role in shaping the future of higher education in the region and beyond.
Nalanda's new campus features two academic blocks with 40 classrooms seating around 1900 students, along with two auditoriums each accommodating 300 people. It includes a hostel for 550 students, an international centre, amphitheatre for 2000, faculty club, and sports complex.
The campus operates as a 'Net Zero' Green Campus, powered by solar plants and equipped with water treatment and recycling facilities across 100 acres of water bodies. It symbolises a collaborative effort between India and East Asia Summit (EAS) countries, rooted in deep historical connections.
