Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Tesla CEO Elon Musk recently spoke over the phone, continuing the conversation they started during their meeting in Washington, DC earlier this year. PM Modi shared on X that their discussion was about strengthening cooperation in the areas of technology and innovation.
“Spoke to Elon Musk and talked about various issues, including the topics we covered during our meeting in Washington, DC earlier this year. We discussed the immense potential for collaboration in the areas of technology and innovation,” PM Modi wrote, highlighting India’s ongoing commitment to strengthening its partnerships with the United States in these sectors. “India remains committed to advancing our partnerships with the US in these domains,” he added.
The post comes at a time of growing global tension, as many countries rush to form new trade deals with the United States due to the threat of tariffs. US President Donald Trump is aiming to rebalance global trade and has criticised India for imposing high tariffs on American goods. Prime Minister Modi’s message is meant to reassure Indian consumers and businesses that partnerships with American companies are still continuing.
The announcement also comes at a time when Tesla is said to be getting ready to set up a manufacturing unit in India. Meanwhile, Reliance Jio has partnered with SpaceX to bring Starlink’s high-speed satellite internet to users in India. However, the service can only be launched once SpaceX gets the necessary regulatory approval from the Indian government.
