During a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Putin described the relationship between Russia and India as "specially privileged" and "developing dynamically." The meeting included a lighthearted moment when Putin believed that Modi would understand him without needing a translator because of the strong bond between their countries.
"Our relations are so tight that I thought you would understand me without translation," Putin said during the meeting. The remark drew a chuckle from PM Modi, whom Putin has called his "good friend" on several occasions.
On the other hand, Prime Minister Narendra Modi responded with a kind gesture as he said, "Me visiting Russia in the last three months reflects our close coordination and deep friendship. The annual summit held in Moscow in July has strengthened our cooperation across all areas."
India considers Russia a long-standing friend that has greatly contributed to its economic growth and security. This bilateral meeting takes place three months after Prime Minister Modi had an informal discussion with Putin in Moscow in July, which raised concerns in the United States and Ukraine, the latter being involved in a conflict with Russia.
"I remember our July meeting when we had a good discussion on a range of issues, and we also spoke over the phone several times. I am very thankful to you for accepting my invitation to visit Kazan," Putin further said.
PM Modi, on his part, stated that the Russia-Ukraine conflict should be resolved peacefully and India was ready to provide all possible cooperation. "We are in constant touch on the issue of ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine. We believe that problems should be resolved in a peaceful manner," said PM Modi.
PM Modi engaged with Putin hours after his arrival in Kazan for the 16th Brics Summit. "We fully support the early return of peace and stability. All our efforts give priority to humanity. India is ready to provide all possible cooperation in times to come," added PM Modi.
