Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his two-day historic visit to Kuwait, received a ceremonial guard of honour at the Bayan Palace on Sunday before holding discussions with Kuwait's top leadership. Kuwait's Amir, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, also awarded him the country's highest honour, "The Order of Mubarak Al Kabeer."
Kuwait has a knighthood order called the Order of Mubarak Al Kabeer. As a token of friendship, the order had previously been given to heads of state, foreign sovereigns and members of foreign royal families, such as George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, and Prince Charles. This marks PM Modi's twentieth international honour from a nation. The first Indian prime minister to visit Kuwait in forty-three years, Narendra Modi arrived on Saturday for a two-day visit. After receiving a grand welcome, PM Modi held detailed talks with the Amir, Crown Prince Sabah Al-Khalid Al-Sabah, and his Kuwaiti counterpart. During these discussions, India and Kuwait agreed to strengthen their relationship by elevating ties to a strategic partnership. The leaders focused on enhancing cooperation in areas such as information technology, pharmaceuticals, fintech, infrastructure, and security. Prime Minister Modi met Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Al-Khalid Al-Sabah. External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal mentioned that their discussion focused on strengthening India-Kuwait relations and taking them to "new heights." A few hours before his scheduled arrival in Kuwait, PM Modi replied to a message on social media platform X from the granddaughter of Mangal Sain Handa, who requested him to meet her grandfather. "Humble request to Hon'ble PM @narendramodi to meet my 101-year-old Nanaji, ex-IFS officer, in Kuwait during tomorrow's interaction with the Indian Diaspora. Mangal Sain Handa's son, Dilip Handa, told ANI, “This is an experience of a lifetime. PM Modi said he especially came here to meet him (my father). We are grateful to Prime Minister Modi.”
