Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a sharp political attack on both the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) and the Opposition United Democratic Front (UDF) at an election rally held in Palakkad as part of the campaign for the Kerala Assembly elections. Addressing the gathering, he accused both fronts of engaging in what he described as “adjustment politics”. He claimed that they are not true rivals but function in coordination for political convenience.

Modi alleged that the LDF and UDF have an understanding that allows them to alternate power while keeping new political forces out of the state’s governance. He said this arrangement has prevented real development in Kerala and has limited the choices available to voters. According to him, the people of Kerala are now recognising this pattern and are looking for a new alternative that can bring genuine change.

Positioning the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) as that alternative, Modi said the alliance represents a fresh and credible option for the state. He asserted that the NDA is not anyone’s “B-team” but the “real A-team” in Kerala politics. He emphasised that the alliance stands for development, transparency, and accountability, contrasting it with what he described as the corrupt and self-serving politics of both the LDF and the UDF.

During his speech, Modi also criticised both fronts for their governance record and accused them of focusing on vote-bank politics instead of addressing the real issues faced by people. He said corruption, nepotism, and political violence have affected Keralam’s progress. He further claimed that both alliances have failed to deliver on their promises and have disappointed the public over the years.

Highlighting the NDA’s vision for the state, Modi spoke about the concept of “Viksit Keralam” or a developed Keralam. He said the NDA aims to bring growth, better infrastructure, and improved opportunities for the youth. He stressed that the central government has already taken several initiatives for the development of the state and assured that more efforts will be made if the NDA gains strength in Kerala

The Prime Minister also focused on women’s empowerment during his address. He mentioned initiatives taken by the central government to support women and said that the NDA is committed to ensuring their participation in development. He presented this as an example of the alliance’s inclusive approach to governance.

Modi also referred to the changing political mood in Kerala. He said that people in the state are sending a clear message that they want change and are ready to move beyond the traditional dominance of the LDF and UDF. He expressed confidence that the NDA will gain more support in the upcoming elections as voters look for a new direction.

The rally in Palakkad marked an important phase of the NDA’s campaign in Kerala.
