Prime Minister Narendra Modi kicked off his election campaign for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections with a scathing attack on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Congress, blaming them for mismanaging the capital for a whopping 25 years.
At a rally in North-East Delhi, PM Modi urged voters to support a BJP-led "double-engine" government in the upcoming Assembly elections on February 5. “You saw the first 14 years of this century under Congress and then gave 11 years to the AAPda government,” PM Modi remarked, using the term “AAPda” to signify a disaster under AAP's leadership. “Yet, Delhi’s problems remain unchanged. These two parties have destroyed two generations,” he further said.
The Prime Minister slammed the Aam Aadam Party (AAP) for holding back Delhi's progress and growth. Modi said, “Crores of Indians are working toward the vision of a Viksit Bharat (Developed India). For India to become a developed nation, the capital must lead by example. But look at Delhi today—does it reflect that potential? Even Delhiites express their frustrations daily.”
Prime Minister Modi promised that the BJP government would fulfil its promises, saying, “I will take care of you like the head of a family looks after his loved ones. This is ‘Modi ki Guarantee’—a guarantee that every assurance will be fulfilled.”
PM Modi, expressing confidence in the BJP’s win, emphasised the party's main goals, such as providing housing for the poor, modernising the city, ensuring a reliable water supply and putting an end to the tanker mafia. “Delhi is ready for change. AAPda jaayegi, BJP aayegi (The disaster will go, BJP will come),” he conveyed.
PM Modi also commended the Delhi BJP unit for developing a well-rounded manifesto, which includes promises for welfare schemes targeting women, youth, the middle class, auto drivers, shopkeepers, and slum dwellers.
The Delhi assembly elections, set for February 5, will see a triangular contest between AAP, Congress, and the BJP, with the BJP aiming to regain power after 27 years.
Congress earlier governed Delhi for three consecutive terms but has struggled in recent elections, failing to win a single seat. On the other hand, AAP dominated the 2015 and 2020 elections, winning 67 and 62 seats, respectively, while the BJP secured only three and eight seats.
