PM Modi and Japan's Kishida discuss Mumbai-Ahmedabad high speed rail project at G7 summit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Japanese PM Fumio Kishida during the G-7 Summit in Apulia, Italy, where they discussed the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail project. The project aims for a targeted investment of 5 trillion yen in India.
The Prime Minister's office emphasised India-Japan relations, stating on X that PM Narendra Modi conducted a productive bilateral meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida in Italy, on the sidelines of the G7 Summit.
The PMO stated on X that their talks included plans to enhance business, people-to-people, and government-to-government relations, as well as exploring trade opportunities. Discussions also focused on boosting strategic sectors such as defence and high-speed rail infrastructure, alongside strengthening B2B, P2P, and G2G ties.
According to a statement from the Ministry of External Affairs, Prime Minister Modi expressed gratitude to Japanese PM Kishida for his congratulatory wishes upon assuming office for a third consecutive term. Modi assured that bilateral relations with Japan would remain a top priority during his current term.
Both leaders acknowledged that the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership has entered its 10th year and expressed satisfaction with the progress achieved in strengthening bilateral ties.
The statement highlighted several key areas of collaboration between India and Japan. These include the significant Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail project, aimed at revolutionising mobility in India. Additionally, both countries are targeting Japanese investment worth 5 trillion yen between 2022 and 2027. Furthermore, they are working on the India-Japan Industrial Competitiveness Partnership to enhance cooperation in manufacturing.
The leaders underscored their commitment to advancing these initiatives, which they believe will further deepen and diversify the strategic partnership between India and Japan.
The meeting between the two prime ministers provided an opportunity to review several ongoing cooperative efforts. Both leaders expressed anticipation for further discussions at the upcoming India-Japan annual summit.
Prime Minister Modi shared his delight in meeting Japanese PM Kishida during the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Italy. He emphasised the importance of strong India-Japan ties for fostering a peaceful, secure, and prosperous Indo-Pacific region. PM Modi highlighted mutual interests in enhancing collaboration across defence, technology, semiconductors, clean energy, and digital technology sectors. Additionally, he expressed a shared desire to advance partnerships in infrastructure development and cultural exchanges.

In a subsequent update on X, Prime Minister Modi shared photographs of his meeting with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, describing their discussions as highly productive.
PM Modi expressed confidence in the potential of the India-Germany Strategic Partnership to significantly contribute to global growth that is both inclusive and sustainable. He highlighted the importance of fostering deeper cooperation between the two countries towards achieving these shared objectives.
