According to a recent report, Pithoragarh's Naini Saini airport located on China border has successfully obtained an aerodrome licence from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), allowing the operation of civil flights. As per reports, the licence, which grants permission for the take-off and landing of civil flights, has a validity of six months.

Expressing gratitude, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami extended his thanks to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia for their instrumental roles in facilitating the issuance of the licence. Dhami emphasized that this development marks a significant milestone in bolstering air connectivity within the state of Uttarakhand.

The much-anticipated licence was officially issued on Monday, marking a major achievement for Naini Saini airport. Anurag Arya, the airport's manager, confirmed the news, stating that “they had received the licence to operate civil flights for a period of six months.”

Prior to granting the licence, a team from DGCA conducted a thorough survey of the airport's facilities last month. This meticulous evaluation served as a prerequisite for the issuance of the aerodrome licence.

With the newly acquired licence, strategically located Naini Saini airport at a 100 km aerial distance from the China border, is poised to become a crucial hub for civil aviation, promoting improved connectivity and facilitating convenient travel options for the residents of Pithoragarh and surrounding regions.
