Pawan Kalyan, the leader of the Janasena Party and Deputy Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, has announced the creation of a new wing called the Narasimha Varahi Brigade. This wing will be dedicated to protecting Sanatan Dharma.
"I respect all religions, but I stand firm on my faith. Those who criticise Sanatana Dharma on social media or speak disrespectfully about it will have to face the consequences. Thus, I am establishing a dedicated wing within our party named the 'Narasimha Varahi Brigade' for the protection of Sanatana Dharma," said Kalyan while explaining the motto of the newly formed group.
The change follows a recent controversy about the purported use of tainted ghee in the prasadam served at the Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple in Tirupati. The Deputy CM made a strong case last month for a strong national law that would safeguard Sanatana Dharma and stop acts that go against its principles. "A strong national Act is needed to protect Sanatana Dharma and prevent harm to its beliefs. This Act should be enacted immediately and enforced uniformly across Bharat," said Kalyan during the Varahi Declaration event in Tirupati.
He suggested creating a Sanatana Dharma Protection Board at the federal and state levels to supervise the application of the law and provide financing specifically for its operations. Additionally, he emphasised the necessity of Sanatana Dharma Certification in order to guarantee the purity of the materials used for prasadam and temple offerings. "There should be non-cooperation with those who defame or spread hatred against Sanatana Dharma," he added.
On Saturday, the chief of the Janasena Party shared his long-standing relationship with the Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Temple in IS Jaganathapuram, which he has been supporting since 2009. He has committed to donating Rs 4.5 crore for the temple's development, which will include building a protective wall and constructing new temple facilities. Additionally, he promised to investigate any unauthorised digging near the temple site.
