A Mohali court in Punjab has found self-proclaimed pastor Bajinder Singh guilty in a 2018 sexual harassment case. However, five other individuals facing similar charges have been acquitted, as per media reports.
On March 19, Bajinder Singh and five others appeared in a Mohali court for a hearing regarding allegations made by a woman from Zirakpur in 2018. The woman claimed that Singh sexually assaulted her at his home in Sector 63, Chandigarh, and recorded the act. She also alleged that he later threatened to release the video on social media if she reported the incident or refused to follow his demands. Singh was arrested at Delhi airport in July 2018 while trying to board a flight to London for a planned healing event. He was granted bail later that year. The case went on for several years and recently ended with his conviction.
After the court's verdict, Singh's supporters staged protests, demanding that the FIR against him be cancelled. Bajinder Singh, widely known as the ‘Yeshu Yeshu’ pastor, gained popularity through viral videos of his sermons, where the chant ‘Mera Yeshu Yeshu’ was often heard in the background. His followers commonly call him by this nickname. Singh has recently been involved in several legal controversies. Just three days ago, a new case was filed against him after a video went viral, showing him assaulting a man and a woman. In the widely shared footage, Singh was seen throwing a mobile phone and a book at the two individuals inside his office.
A woman in the video said she had worked at Singh’s church for several years but resigned after the incident. She claimed that young women and girls who volunteered at the church were being stalked and harassed. She also alleged that Singh had physically handled those who spoke up about the issue. Earlier this month, another case was registered against Singh in Punjab’s Kapurthala district. A 22-year-old woman accused him of sexual harassment, stalking, and criminal intimidation. Singh has denied all allegations, saying he is being targeted as part of a conspiracy planned by another pastor.
