On Monday, Pashupati Kumar Paras, chief of the Rashtriya Lok Janshakti Party and former union minister, announced that his party is no longer part of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA). He said the decision was driven by the unfair treatment his party received, claiming it was sidelined because it represents Dalits. Paras also noted that BJP and JDU leaders in Bihar failed to acknowledge his party during NDA meetings. Paras expressed, "I have been with the NDA since 2014. Today, I announce that henceforth, my party shall have no links with the NDA."
Discussing the future of his party in politics, Pashupati Paras said, "If Mahagathbandhan gives us proper respect at the right time, we will definitely think of politics in the future." Throughout this year, Paras has had multiple meetings with RJD president Lalu Prasad Yadav. Paras declared his party's decision to break away from the NDA on Monday during an event held to mark BR Ambedkar's birth anniversary.
Speaking at the RLJP event, Paras criticised Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, saying, "In Nitish Kumar's 20-year-long rule, the education system has been ruined in the state, no new industries have been set up, and rampant corruption affects the implementation of all welfare schemes," according to PTI. In response to these remarks, Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi stated that "there will be no adverse impact on the NDA."
The RLJP was created in 2021 following a split in the Lok Janshakti Party, which the late Ram Vilas Paswan, the brother of Pashupati Kumar Paras, had founded. Paras stepped down from his cabinet position last year before the Lok Sabha elections after his nephew’s party, the Rashtriya Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), was given five seats to contest as part of the NDA alliance. In the year 2024, he was also directed to vacate the Bihar government bungalow he had been using to operate his party, which was then reassigned to Chirag Paswan, according to PTI.
