Pakistan's security forces carried out an intelligence-based operation in the northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Friday. During the operation, the security forces eliminated six terrorists, according to a statement from the military's media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR). The operation was launched based on reports about the presence of terrorists in the area.
According to the statement, six militants were killed during the operation after the troops successfully engaged them. The ISPR stated that in an effort to eradicate the threat of terrorism from the nation, a sanitisation operation was carried out to get rid of any other militants that might have been present. The Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies, a think tank, revealed data showing that the number of terror attacks in the country increased by 42% in January 2025 compared to the previous month.
The data shows that there were at least 74 militant attacks across the country, leading to 91 deaths. This includes 35 security personnel, 20 civilians, and 36 militants. Additionally, 117 people were injured, including 53 security forces, 54 civilians, and 10 militants. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa persists to be the most affected province after Balochistan.
Terrorists carried out 27 strikes in the settled districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, killing 19 people—11 security officers, 6 civilians and 2 militants. In the tribal districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (formerly FATA), there were 19 attacks, resulting in 46 deaths. Among the victims were 13 security personnel, eight civilians, and 25 militants.
