Pakistan ambassador to Turkmenistan, KK Ahsan Wagan, was deported from Los Angeles after he was denied entry into the United States, according to Pakistani media reports citing diplomatic sources.
As per Pakistani local media outlet 'The News', Wagan, who had a valid US visa and all necessary travel documents, was halted by US immigration officials as he arrived at Los Angeles International Airport for a personal visit. A senior official from the foreign ministry confirmed to 'The News' on Monday that he was sent back to his previous port of departure due to an "immigration objection." The report signalled that Wagan was flagged due to "controversial visa references," though the exact details of the issue are still unknown. His deportation has sparked concerns about diplomatic protocols and the reasons behind the US authorities' decision.
Wagan is a seasoned diplomat with a history of holding important posts, such as head of mission in Niger, ambassador to Oman, and deputy consul general of Pakistan in Los Angeles. The sources further stated that he is anticipated to be summoned back to Islamabad for clarification, considering the significance of the matter. Pakistan's top diplomatic officials, including Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Foreign Secretary Aamna Baloch, have been informed about the incident. The country's foreign ministry has instructed its Consulate in Los Angeles to investigate the matter, as reported by The News.
Additionally, efforts to reach Wagan for a statement were unsuccessful, as he did not answer calls or messages. Meanwhile, Pakistan's Foreign Office has also chosen not to comment on the incident.
