Pakistan's Economic Affairs Ministry said on Friday that its X account had been hacked, following the circulation of a viral post requesting more loans from international partners during heightened tensions with India. The ministry told Reuters that it "did not tweet" the message and was "working to have the X (account) switched off".
The ministry, in a post on X, urged the international partners to help reduce rising tensions with India following the deadly April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam that left 26 people, mostly male tourists, dead. The post was still visible on the ministry’s account when this report was written. Tensions have intensified since the Indian military carried out strikes on nine terror-linked locations in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (POK). Among the targets were Jaish-e-Mohammad’s base in Bahawalpur and Lashkar-e-Taiba’s facility in Muridke. These strikes, part of Operation Sindoor, were conducted in response to the Pahalgam attack.
On Thursday afternoon, the Defence Ministry reported that the Indian armed forces successfully thwarted Pakistan’s efforts to target military facilities in 15 northern and western cities using missiles and drones. That evening, Pakistan escalated the situation by launching a wave of drones and missiles into border regions in Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, and Rajasthan. Several cities, including Jammu, Udhampur, Gurdaspur, and Chandigarh, were hit by attacks, causing complete blackouts. According to the Defence Ministry, Pakistan’s military aimed at multiple locations, including Awantipura, Srinagar, Jammu, Pathankot, Amritsar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Adampur, Bathinda, Chandigarh, Nal, Phalodi, Uttarlai and Bhuj. In retaliation, India deployed kamikaze drones, successfully destroying a Pakistani air defence system in Lahore.
On Friday, the Indian Army released its first-ever footage showing the destruction of a Pakistani military post in Indian strikes along the Line of Control (LoC), as tensions between the two countries continue to rise. The Army reported successfully defending against drone and missile attacks by Pakistani forces along the western border in Jammu and Kashmir, amidst concerns of an all-out military conflict. It also mentioned delivering a strong response to Pakistan's ceasefire violations along the LoC as part of its Operation Sindoor. Following India’s missile strikes on terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (POK), Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri stated that the initial escalation stemmed from the Pahalgam terror attack.
He also emphasised that only terror infrastructure was targeted in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, stating that India's precision strikes under Operation Sindoor were "non-escalatory, precise, and measured." Additionally, he mentioned that 16 civilians lost their lives in Poonch and other areas due to Pakistan's strikes. Earlier, sources told India Today TV that over 100 terrorists were killed in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir during India's Operation Sindoor.
