In a concerted effort, 61 organizations from the global East Turkistani and Uyghur diaspora have united to appeal to the United States Congress, urging recognition of their homeland, East Turkistan. The press release from the East Turkistan National Movement highlights the ongoing genocidal occupation faced by their people under China in East Turkistan.
Led by the East Turkistan Government in Exile, a parliamentary government based in Washington, DC, this coalition represents Uyghurs, Kazakhs, and other indigenous peoples of East Turkistan.
The coalition applauds the House of Representatives for passing the Uyghur Policy Act with broad bipartisan support and urges the Senate to do the same.
They highlight these actions as a demonstration of ongoing US leadership in supporting the people of East Turkistan. Additionally, they call on Congressional leaders to further build on this leadership by implementing sustained and increasing actions in the region.
The letter to Congress details the dire situation in East Turkistan under Chinese occupation, citing ongoing genocide and attempts to erase the identity of its people. It urges Congress to take decisive action to address the root cause: China's colonization and occupation of East Turkistan.
The recent review by the United Nations showed that some countries are speaking out against China's human rights abuses, while others are being forced to go along with them. The worst abuses are happening every day in East Turkistan and other parts of China and Central Asia. The East Turkistan Government in Exile (ETGE) has given evidence of these crimes to the International Criminal Court.
ETGE President Mamtimin Ala says it's really important for the US Congress to say that East Turkistan is under someone else's control. This would help to give the people there their rights back. It's not just about politics; it's about doing what's right and stopping the terrible things happening under the Chinese government.

It's not just about politics; it's about doing what's right and stopping terrible things happening under the Chinese government.
Salih Hudayar, Foreign Minister of the ETGE, added that the United States has always been known for supporting freedom and fairness around the world. By saying that East Turkistan is occupied and taking strong actions, the U.S. can lead the world in standing up against China's efforts to erase and mistreat people.
This joint request highlights how important it is for the US and the world to recognize what China is doing in East Turkistan. The people signing the letter are ready to give more information and help to support justice, human rights, and respect for the people of East Turkistan.
The ETGE is asking the U.S. Congress to listen to this request and support freedom, fairness, and the right for the people of East Turkistan to make their own choices.
