A group of more than 100 migrants made an attempt to illegally enter the US by rushing a border wall, breaking through razor wire, and knocking over guards in the process.

The Post previously observed approximately 600 migrants gathered at the international border, forming part of a 'spring surge' of migrants who were arriving and hoping to gain access to the US.

The Texas National Guard attempted to organize the migrants into smaller groups, but tensions escalated when guardsmen separated some women and children from adult males. Video footage captured by The Post depicted a group of migrants, primarily single men, rushing towards the Texas troops. Meanwhile, a defensive position was formed by a group of five guards to fill the gap.

The guardsmen firmly grasped their rifles and maintained their position in front of the migrants, despite being heavily outnumbered. Some guardsmen placed their hands directly on the migrants to prevent them from advancing further, reacting to the pushing from the migrants. As the situation intensified, the scene grew louder and more chaotic.

In the video, several individuals were seen raising their hands in surrender, but moments later, others rushed through the gap, with some squeezing through the guards' legs and pushing them aside. Subsequently, the group hurried towards the border gate and began shouting at the guardsmen stationed on the opposite side.

A male migrant was heard shouting, "We have women and children, we're hungry," despite the majority of children being in a separate group, which was being readied for processing to enter the country. Another voice cried out, "Help, help, help, they're kids." Following this, additional members of the Texas National Guard swiftly moved in to secure the area. "Get back," one guard yelled, attempting to restore order to the situation.

According to sources cited by The Post, the unruly group, which had gathered in the vicinity identified as Gate 36 near the El Paso highway, was repelled back to Mexico. However, local reports indicate that some individuals were apprehended, while the remaining members of the group were taken into the US for processing.

Border Patrol agent Orlando Marrero informed the local KFOX14 news station that "The migrants that we encountered here today at Gate 36 will be taken to a processing centre."

Despite the disturbance, El Paso's migrant dashboard indicated that 743 individuals were released into the US, either on parole or to pursue asylum claims under President Biden's policies. Thousands of migrants have recently arrived in the city, with nightly border patrol custody numbers ranging from 2,000 to 2,500.

The Spring surge refers to the influx of Central and South American migrants when weather conditions become favourable. A spokesperson from Abbott's office attributed the surge to what they termed as the "unsustainable chaos" unleashed by President Biden on the border.

The Texas Military Department and the Texas Department of Public Safety swiftly responded to gain control of the situation and are now working on repairing the damage caused. Illegal immigrants involved in the incident are facing charges of criminal trespass and property destruction.

The state had initiated preparations to enforce SB4, a new law enabling arrests for illegal entry, but an appeals court halted its implementation shortly after the Supreme Court initially approved it.
