A large-scale enforcement operation conducted across Gujarat led to the detention of 501 individuals identified by authorities as suspected illegal Bangladeshi nationals. The action was carried out under 'Operation Delta Hunt', a statewide initiative aimed at identifying undocumented foreign nationals residing in the state.
According to figures released by authorities, the operation was conducted simultaneously across multiple districts. Various law enforcement agencies participated in the drive, including district police units, crime branch teams, cyber cells, and special operations groups. The coordinated exercise formed part of ongoing verification and identification efforts being undertaken across Gujarat.
The operation was launched on Wednesday, June 4. Police teams carried out early-morning checks in residential localities, labour colonies, and other locations that had been flagged through intelligence inputs. Authorities said the drive focused on identifying individuals suspected of staying in the state without valid documentation.
Operation Delta Hunt is part of a broader security and immigration enforcement framework currently being implemented in Gujarat. Officials stated that intelligence-based methods are being used to identify suspected undocumented foreign nationals. These methods include telecom data analysis, human intelligence gathering, and detailed verification of documents.
Authorities said that during the initial phases of the operation, thousands of individuals were screened as part of the verification process. Following these checks, several hundred people were detained after authorities completed preliminary verification procedures.
Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi praised the operation and said such exercises should be conducted regularly. Describing the initiative as an intelligence-led operation involving different police units, Harsh Sanghavi said, "Such operations are intended to identify undocumented residents and examine potential facilitation networks involving forged documentation, accommodation, and employment support."
Officials said document verification remained a major part of Operation Delta Hunt. Investigations conducted during earlier phases of the drive included detailed scrutiny of identity records. In some cases, authorities examined suspected use of forged or fraudulently obtained Aadhaar documents. Investigators also looked into individuals and networks allegedly involved in helping undocumented residents secure accommodation, employment, or other forms of support.
Authorities further stated that questioning of additional suspected individuals would continue. Verification of those already detained is also underway. Officials said further investigations will be carried out as part of the ongoing process.
The operation is part of wider state-level efforts to address illegal immigration. Previous phases of Operation Delta Hunt had already resulted in detentions and large-scale screening exercises across major cities such as Ahmedabad, Surat, and Rajkot. Authorities have continued to expand these verification drives as part of their enforcement strategy.
Officials said more details are expected once the current verification process is completed. Information regarding the district-wise distribution of the latest detentions, along with details of legal proceedings and further action, is likely to be released after authorities finish their ongoing investigations and verification work.
