Odisha CM inaugurates OPTCL Tech Tower in Bhubaneswar built at cost of Rs 55 Cr

A step towards enhancing the state's power infrastructure, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik inaugurated the OPTCL Tech Tower in Saheed Nagar, Bhubaneswar. With a total expenditure of Rs 55 Crore, this imposing multi-storeyed structure now serves as the Corporate Office of the Odisha Power Transmission Corporation Ltd (OPTCL).
The OPTCL Tech Tower stands as a testament to modern architectural excellence and cutting-edge technology, with a dual emphasis on workplace safety and energy efficiency. This infrastructure represents a significant milestone for Odisha, given OPTCL's pivotal role in ensuring a consistent and high-quality supply of electricity to the state's residents. The event marked a significant acknowledgment of OPTCL's contributions to the state's robust power sector, a testament to its growth and development.
Underlining the remarkable growth in the state's power sector, Chief Minister Patnaik revealed that the number of consumers had surged from 16 lakhs in 2000 to a staggering 97 lakhs. This surge in demand has been met with substantial increases in capacity and reach. For instance, the number of grid substations has risen from 80 to 194, while the transformation capacity has seen an impressive increase from 6,125 MVA to 25,800 MVA. The transmission line, a crucial component of the power network, has expanded from 9400 circuit km to 16,300 circuit km.
Moreover, OPTCL's initiatives and contributions to the power sector go beyond infrastructure development. The organization has been instrumental in generating a multitude of employment opportunities for the youth of Odisha, further accentuating its role as an agent of growth and development.
The inauguration event drew a distinguished gathering of notable personalities, reflecting the significance of the occasion. In attendance were Energy Minister Pratap Keshari Dev, Science & Technology Minister Ashok Chandra Panda, MLA Ananta Narayan Jena, MLA Susant Kumar Rout, Additional Chief Secretary Energy Nikunja Bihari Dhal, OPTCL CMD Sanjay Kumar Mishra, and several senior officers and employees of OPTCL.
In sum, the OPTCL Tech Tower represents a momentous milestone, both in terms of advancing Odisha's power sector and elevating the standard of electricity services in the state.
