Pakistani analyst Imtiaz Gul made a shocking claim about the Pakistan Air Force's (PAF) Nur Khan airbase in a video that recently went viral on social media. Gul alleged in the video that the Americans reportedly controlled the Nur Khan airbase.
He stated, "Pakistan’s Nur Khan Airbase reportedly under American control — even Pak Army officers aren’t allowed to interfere." He claimed that Pakistan Army officers were not authorised to operate freely at the airbase. He implied that there could be operational agreements or restrictions in place during joint operations or visits.
Gul mentioned that American planes had been repeatedly seen at the airbase. He alleged that there was no transparency about the cargo those planes carried.
The Indian armed forces targeted and damaged the Nur Khan airbase during precision strikes conducted under Operation Sindoor. India carried out Operation Sindoor in response to the Pahalgam terror attack. The attack killed 26 people, most of them tourists.
India’s strike on the Nur Khan airbase held both strategic and symbolic value. The Nur Khan airbase stood close to the Pakistan Army headquarters in Rawalpindi. It also lies roughly 10 km from Islamabad. The airbase was near the headquarters of the Strategic Plans Division. That division oversees Pakistan's nuclear arsenal.
The base hosted Pakistan’s primary air transport squadrons, such as the C-130 Hercules and IL-78 mid-air refuellers. These aircraft were essential for logistical and strategic airlift missions. Nur Khan airbase also served as the command centre for air mobility operations.
It housed the Benazir Bhutto International Airport. It also included PAF College Chaklala and Fazaia Inter College Nur Khan. PAF College Chaklala trained aviation cadets. Fazaia Inter College Nur Khan provided additional educational facilities on the airbase premises.
