The NSCN-IM (National Socialist Council of Nagalim - Isak-Muivah) in Guwahati has voiced concerns about the possibility of a resurgence of severe human rights violations in Nagalim if the ongoing talks do not produce favourable results.
Stressing the importance of reaching a timely and dignified resolution to the protracted Indo-Naga political negotiations, NSCN-IM highlighted the significance of the signed Framework Agreement.
This agreement, officially recognised by the Government of India, acknowledges the unique historical background of the Naga people and affirms their independent identity. Additionally, it delineates the framework for the coexistence of the Nagas and Indians, with a shared sovereignty arrangement.
The NSCN-IM accused the Government of India of attempting to backtrack and disavow the Framework Agreement despite previous commitments and agreements. They alleged that the government was orchestrating situations through proxy Naga factions, opportunists, and hostile neighbouring groups to undermine the agreement.
The NSCN-IM asserted their unwavering commitment to the historic Framework Agreement signed on August 3, 2015, stating that the Naga people stand firm under the banner of the National Socialist Council of Nagalim.
The outfit expressed the belief that the Framework Agreement holds the potential to establish enduring peace and a sustainable relationship between the two peoples, the Nagas and the Indian government.
They asserted that it would ensure both India's security and the future of the Nagas. The outfit further stated that the betrayal of the Framework Agreement would result in the collapse of peace and development in the region, which they deemed as highly detrimental.
Peace negotiations between the Centre and NSCN-IM are underway. However, there is a deadlock between the two parties regarding the divisive matter of a separate flag and constitution. NSCN-IM has been pushing for the recognition of a distinct flag and constitution, a demand that the Indian government has turned down.
