India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval visited Riyadh on Sunday for a series of high-level meetings with senior Saudi leaders, aiming to strengthen bilateral ties, boost energy cooperation, and discuss important regional developments. The visit reflects the growing strategic partnership between India and Saudi Arabia at a time when global geopolitical dynamics are rapidly evolving.
During his visit, Doval engaged in discussions that covered a wide range of issues, including bilateral cooperation, regional security concerns, and other matters of shared interest. These talks underline the importance both nations place on maintaining close diplomatic and strategic coordination, especially in areas such as energy security and regional stability.
Doval met several key figures in the Saudi leadership, including Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman, Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan, and National Security Advisor Musaed Al-Aiban. These meetings focused on strengthening cooperation across sectors and enhancing mutual understanding on pressing regional and global issues.
The Embassy of India in Riyadh shared details of the visit on the social media platform X, highlighting the significance of the engagement. It also noted that Doval was received at the airport by Ambassador Dr. Suhel Khan and Saudi Deputy Minister for Political Affairs Ambassador Dr. Saud Al-Sati.
The Embassy stated, “Hon'ble NSA Shri Ajit Doval paid an official visit to Riyadh on April 19. He was received at the Airport by Ambassador Dr Suhel Khan and Deputy Minister for Political Affairs @KSAmofaEN Ambassador Dr. Saud Al-Sati. Later, he had meetings with Energy Minister H.R.H. Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman, Foreign Minister H.H. Prince Faisal bin Farhan and National Security Advisor Dr. Musaed Al-Aiban. During the meetings, they discussed bilateral relations, regional situation and other issues of mutual interests.”
This visit comes at a time when India is actively engaging with multiple global partners on security and diplomatic matters. Just a few days earlier, on April 17, Doval held detailed discussions with Rustem Umerov, Secretary of Ukraine’s National Security and Defence Council. This meeting highlighted India’s continued dialogue with Ukraine amid the ongoing conflict in Eastern Europe.
According to Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, the talks with Ukraine focused on bilateral relations and the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict. India reiterated its consistent stance of supporting a peaceful resolution through dialogue and diplomacy, maintaining its balanced approach in global conflicts.
The back-to-back engagements in Riyadh and with Ukraine reflect India’s proactive diplomatic strategy. The country continues to strengthen ties with key international partners while addressing both regional and global challenges. India’s approach remains focused on cooperation, stability, and constructive dialogue, especially in regions facing geopolitical tensions.
Doval’s visit to Riyadh is particularly significant in the context of energy cooperation. Saudi Arabia remains one of India’s key energy partners, and discussions with the Saudi Energy Minister signal efforts to further enhance collaboration in this crucial sector. Energy security continues to be a priority for India, and strengthening ties with major suppliers plays a vital role in ensuring stability.
At the same time, discussions on regional security highlight shared concerns over developments in West Asia and beyond. Both countries have an interest in maintaining peace and stability in the region, which directly impacts global trade and energy flows. The meetings provided an opportunity to exchange views and coordinate positions on these issues.
Overall, the visit underscores the steady growth of India-Saudi Arabia relations. It reflects a broader effort by India to deepen strategic partnerships while maintaining active engagement on global issues. With continued dialogue and cooperation, both nations aim to build a stronger and more resilient partnership in the years ahead.
