Northeast India's largest cold storage facility inaugurated in Chaygaon

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday inaugurated North-East India’s largest-ever cold storage facility at Chaygaon. The facility has been constructed by the state government at the cost of Rs 24.75 crores.
The cold storage facility will have 5,000-MT capacity. The Assam CM also inaugurated a fruit processing centre at Panery. The Assam CM also inaugurated a fruit processing facility at Panery.
While addressing the event, Sarma said, "Inauguration of a cold storage with 5,000-MT capacity at Chaygaon and a fruit processing centre at Panery mark a new chapter in Assam’s agri sector."
The CM lauded Bhogali Jalpan proprietor Ajit Sarma Baruah and his wife Anjali Sarma Baruah for coming forward to set up the centre for Rs 2.89 crore at Panery. Notably, the state government provided 50 percent subsidy for the centre.
The Assam CM also emphasised on the planting of high-value trees like sal, agar, teak, etc, at home to reap economic benefits. The town is located on National Highway 17 and is connected to nearby cities and towns with buses and other modes of transportation. It also has a railway station at Dhobargaon. The international airport is just 25 km from Chaygaon.
