North Korea said on Friday that its two latest rounds of weapons tests this week were successful while vowing to bolster its nuclear “war deterrent” and speed up the development of more powerful warheads.
Kim also inspected a munitions factory where workers pledged loyalty to their leader, who “smashes with his bold pluck the challenges of US imperialists and their vassal forces,” state media KCNA said.
He “highly appreciated the factory effecting collective innovation and leaping progress in producing major weapons”, KCNA added.
Since earlier January 2022, while ignoring US offers of talks, Pyongyang has conducted six weapons tests which include hypersonic missiles.
North Korea has test-fired more long-range cruise missiles on Friday and short-range ballistic missiles on Thursday.
On Friday, the official Korean central news agency said it “conducted the test-fire for updating long-range cruise missile system and the test-fire for confirming the power of conventional warhead for surface-to-surface tactical guided missile”.
KCNA said the test on Tuesday involved long-range cruise missiles flying over the East Sea and hitting “the target island 1,800km away”.
According to KCNA, Thursday’s launch then saw short-range ballistic missiles hit a “target island” while, “proving that the explosive power of the conventional warhead complied with the design requirements”.
