Noel Tata unanimously appointed chairman, succeeds Ratan Tata at Tata Trusts

The board of Tata Trusts has chosen Noel Tata to be its new chairman, following the passing of Ratan Tata on October 9. Noel Tata, 67 years old and the half-brother of Ratan Tata, has been associated with the Tata group and Tata Trusts for many years. The decision was made unanimously by the board on Friday.
Noel is Naval Tata's son from his second marriage. He currently sits on the boards of the Sir Ratan Tata Trust and the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust as a trustee. Tata Trusts consists of the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust and Allied Trusts as well as the Sir Ratan Tata Trust and Allied Trusts. These trusts are essential to Ratan Tata's legacy of significant philanthropy owing to their emphasis on healthcare, education, and poverty alleviation.
Ratan Tata's philosophy of "moving on" has been taken into consideration when choosing the chairman. H P Ranina, senior advocate of the Supreme Court of India, said, “His strategy was to look both forward and ahead, according to reports. “His appointment will ensure continuity and total harmony in the working of the Tata group.”
“Noel is very sensible man. He’s got his heart at the right place and he will do wonderfully well for Tatas,” said R Gopalakrishnan, a former board member of Tata Sons. Noel is currently the vice-chairman of Tata Steel and watchmaker Titan. Along with being the owner of Zudio and Westside, he also serves as chairman of the Tata group's NBFC Tata Investment Corp. and retail business Trent. He is a Voltas board member as well.
Additionally, he also oversees Tata International, where he started his professional career, as managing director. After this appointment between 2010 and 2011, rumours began to circulate that Noel was being groomed to take Ratan Tata's place as the head of the Tata group. The Tata Group's international division is known as Tata International.
Noel Tata is a graduate of Sussex University in the United Kingdom and has successfully completed INSEAD's International Executive Programme (IEP) in France. Irish citizen Noel is married to Aloo Mistry, the daughter of Tata Sons's single largest shareholder, Pallonji Mistry. Their three children are named Neville, Maya, and Leah.
