Ahead of the ‘Pran Prathistha’ ceremony at the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, videos depicting ‘communal tension’ in Mumbai’s Mira Road have surfaced on social media, where members of the Muslim community allegedly attacked the Hindu community, who were raising saffron flags and chanting ‘Jai Shri Ram’.
In the viral videos capturing the incident, cars could be seen being attacked in the middle of the road. Windows were broken, and vehicles were thrashed, with stickers of Bhagwan Hanuman being scratched off the car bumpers, with verbal abuses being hurled.
DCP Jayant Bajbale stated that slogans were raised from three to four vehicles in which people from the Hindu community were travelling, leading to an argument with some individuals from the Muslim community.
According to officials, the incident on Sunday night resulted in the arrest of five people, while others were apprehended on Monday. A flag march was subsequently conducted in the area, ensuring a peaceful situation on Monday morning. A case has been registered in the Naya Nagar Police against the five people in the matter.
DCP Jayant Bajbale said, “At around 11 pm yesterday, some people from the Hindu community were raising slogans in 3-4 vehicles in the Naya Nagar area of Mira Road adjacent to Mumbai. Subsequently, an argument ensued with individuals from the Muslim community,” as ANI reported.
Observing the escalating situation, the police vehicle promptly reached the spot and took some people into custody. The situation was brought under control, and an investigation was initiated into the matter.
Later on Monday evening, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis conducted a detailed analysis of the incident, stating, “Any attempt to disrupt law and order in Maharashtra will face zero tolerance.”
“The complete details of the incident in the Nayanagar area of Mira-Bhyander were compiled last night. I was in constant touch with the Mira-Bhyander Police Commissioner until 3:30 am on Monday morning. Police have been instructed to take strict action against the accused,” he posted on X.
Currently, 13 individuals related to the incident have been apprehended, and efforts are underway to identify additional suspects by examining CCTV footage.
