According to reports, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) announced the successful dismantling of an ISIS terror module in Kerala. The agency's actions reportedly foiled potential attacks targeting places of worship and leaders from specific communities. A member of the terror module was apprehended in Tamil Nadu, and the NIA conducted searches at four different locations in Kerala in pursuit of suspected accomplices. The NIA spokesperson confirmed these developments, underscoring the significance of their efforts in neutralizing the terrorist threat.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) disclosed their successful collaboration with the Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) of the Kerala Police in conducting intelligence-led joint operations at four different locations in Kerala. The operations, which took place in Thrissur and Palakkad districts, were initiated based on credible inputs and ongoing investigative efforts. The NIA's primary focus during these targeted raids was to dismantle an ISIS module believed to be engaged in reconnaissance activities and plotting potential terrorist attacks.
During the well-coordinated raids, the NIA and ATS sought to neutralize the emerging threat posed by the ISIS terror module operating within Kerala. The agencies' proactive measures aimed to thwart any possible attacks on places of worship and leaders from specific communities, as well as to disrupt the module's sinister intentions. The arrest of one individual from Tamil Nadu in connection with the module underscores the severity of the situation, highlighting the necessity for swift and efficient counter-terrorism efforts to safeguard public safety and security in the region.
The NIA achieved a successful track and subsequent arrest of the accused, identified as Ashif, also known as "Mathil Akath Kodayil Ashraf," at his hideout located near Sathyamangalam, Tamil Nadu.
"The next day (July 19), searches were conducted in the houses of Ashif, as well as three others, identified as Seyid Nabeel Ahammed, Shiyas TS of Thrissur and Rayees of Palakkad. Digital devices and incriminating documents were seized during these raids," the spokesperson said.
According to the NIA, the terror module was involved in raising funds to support ISIS activities and executing terror attacks through dacoities and various other criminal activities.
"They were conspiring to commit terrorist activities and had already conducted a recce of a few prominent places, including places of worship and leaders of certain communities in the State (Kerala). It aimed to spread terror and trigger a communal divide in the state," the spokesperson said.
The official stated that the investigations in the case, which was registered on July 11 under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, are under investigation.
