A newly constructed hospital in Galyang city, approximately 250 km west of Nepal's capital, was inaugurated on Friday, built by grant assistance from India amounting to around INR 25 million. The ceremony was graced by Prasad Gautam, the chief district coordinator, and Avinash Kumar, the first secretary at the Indian Embassy in Nepal.
The hospital building, which cost NRs. 40.13 million (approximately INR 25 million), was developed under the Nepal-India Development Cooperation, according to a press release issued by the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu. Initially established in 2010, the hospital operated from a small rental building set up by local residents to provide essential health services in remote areas.
The new facility is expected to significantly enhance the quality of healthcare services available to the people of Nepal. With the upgraded infrastructure, the hospital aims to create a more conducive environment for health care delivery, catering to the needs of the local community more effectively.
This project was undertaken as a high-impact community development project (HICDP), under an agreement between the Government of Nepal and the Government of India. HICDPs are designed to provide crucial support for community needs through improved infrastructure and services.
“The implementation of HICDPs reflects the continued support of the Government of India in bolstering the efforts of the government of Nepal in the upliftment of its people by augmenting infrastructure in priority sectors,” the press release added.
This initiative demonstrates India's commitment to enhancing healthcare access and improving living conditions in the region, ultimately aiming for better health outcomes for the local population. The inauguration of the hospital represents a significant step towards strengthening Nepal's health infrastructure and addressing the challenges faced by communities in remote areas.
