Netherlands Foreign Minister Caspar Veldkamp visits India to strengthen bilateral relations

Caspar Veldkamp, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, is making his first official visit to India from March 31 to April 1, 2025.
According to a press release from the Ministry of External Affairs, the visit aims to strengthen the broad relationship between India and the Netherlands, emphasising enhancing cooperation in key areas such as trade, investment, defence, and innovation.
On March 31, 2025, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Foreign Minister Veldkamp engaged in delegation-level talks to strengthen bilateral ties between their nations. Their discussions centred on expanding cooperation in various sectors, such as politics, culture, and people-to-people exchanges, highlighting the growing connections between the two countries.
The leaders also discussed new opportunities for cooperation, particularly in areas like semiconductors, digital technologies, renewable energy, and green hydrogen, while continuing to focus on traditional sectors such as water, agriculture, health, and security. Veldkamp's visit is expected to strengthen these areas and create new pathways for collaboration.
As per the press release, the talks also touched on global and regional issues of shared interest, highlighting the strategic partnership between the two countries.
The visit holds special significance as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the India-Netherlands relationship, which has been developing for over 75 years. Jaishankar expressed his pleasure in meeting Foreign Minister Caspar Veldkamp, saying, "Delighted to meet FM Caspar Veldkamp of Netherlands this evening. Discussed our growing bilateral cooperation, including in trade, investments, innovation, water, agriculture, health, security, and people-to-people ties." He also mentioned, "Explored new possibilities in semiconductors, green hydrogen, education, and talent flows. Also spoke about global strategic developments and the significance of multipolarity."
Foreign Minister Veldkamp shared similar views, stressing the need to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in light of the current geopolitical landscape. "I look forward to visiting India. I will speak there with Foreign Minister EAM Jaishankar and NSA Ajit Doval, amongst others. Considering today's geopolitical reality, it is important for both the Netherlands and India to strengthen our cooperation and deepen our relationship," he shared on X.
The visit spotlights the strong diplomatic relationship between the two nations, which has existed since 1947. It follows 75 years of successful diplomatic ties, high-level exchanges and ongoing cooperation in various areas.
