Nepal’s Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister, Bishnu Prasad Paudel, held crucial bilateral talks with China’s Vice Premier, Ding Xuexiang, during his visit to China on Thursday. The leaders discussed a wide range of bilateral relations, focusing particularly on accelerating the implementation of previously signed agreements between the two countries.
In the meeting, Paudel stressed the importance of expediting the implementation of these agreements, urging for the projects to be completed within a defined time frame. According to a statement released by Nepal's Foreign Ministry, Paudel emphasised the need for both countries to work collectively and efficiently to ensure that the signed projects are executed in a timely manner. This includes several key infrastructure and development initiatives that are pivotal to strengthening Nepal-China relations.
Ding Xuexiang acknowledged the longstanding and excellent bilateral ties between Nepal and China. He emphasised that practical cooperation between the two countries is crucial for mutual benefit. Ding responded positively to Paudel's request for the time-bound execution of joint projects, reaffirming China's commitment to advancing Nepal's infrastructure development.
According to the Foreign Ministry, the two leaders reached an understanding to prioritise the advancement of projects under the Trans-Himalayan Multi-Dimensional Connectivity Network. This includes key initiatives like the Kathmandu-Kerung railway, cross-border transmission lines, and crucial road projects such as the Kimathanka-Hile and Hilsa-Simikot roads. These projects are seen as critical to enhancing connectivity between the two nations and boosting trade, transport, and regional integration.
In addition to infrastructure, the talks covered cooperation in other areas, including tourism, education, cultural exchanges, and strengthening people-to-people relations. Both leaders expressed their commitment to deepening collaboration in these fields to further fortify the ties between the neighbouring countries.
Earlier in his visit, Paudel also met Luo Zhaohui, Chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency, to discuss various aspects of Nepal-China development cooperation. Paudel highlighted the need to further strengthen partnerships in areas such as infrastructure development, connectivity, trade, transport, and dry port facilities.
Luo Zhaohui assured Paudel of China’s continued support in accelerating ongoing projects, especially those related to livelihood improvements and good governance. The two leaders also explored possible cooperation in developing agricultural and industrial parks, as well as the Madan Bhandari University of Science and Technology.
Paudel’s six-day visit to China, which is expected to further strengthen diplomatic and economic ties between the two nations, will conclude on Saturday when he returns to Kathmandu. The visit has been marked by constructive discussions aimed at advancing Nepal-China relations through practical and timely cooperation in multiple sectors.
