Navy Chief Admiral Hari Kumar, Philippine Coast Guard sign Standard Operating Procedure to enhance maritime security

Steering maritime security to new horizons, Naval Chief Admiral R Hari Kumar and CG Admiral Artemio M Abu, Commandant of the Philippine Coast Guard, have inked a game-changing agreement. In a dynamic ceremony held in New Delhi, the visionary leaders activated a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) that will powerfully enhance maritime security.
Taking to the social media handle 'X', formerly known as Twitter, the Indian Navy stated, "Enhancing #MaritimeSecurity - operationalising information exchange. Adm R Hari Kumar, #CNS & CG Adm Artemio M Abu, Commandant, Philippine Coast Guard signed the SOP for White Shipping Information Exchange #WSIE b/n #IndianNavy & @coastguardph at South Block, New Delhi."
Admiral R Hari Kumar and CG Admiral Artemio M Abu have officially signed the SOP aimed at facilitating the exchange of White Shipping Information. The Ministry of Defence, in a statement, has confirmed that this significant agreementss.
"The SOP was signed in New Delhi during the ongoing visit of the Commandant, Philippine Coast Guard to India," the statement added.
Furthermore, the signing of the SOP between the Philippine Coast Guard and the Indian Navy is set to pave the way for operationalizing the exchange of information on merchant shipping traffic. This collaborative effort is anticipated to play a crucial role in bolstering maritime safety and security within the region.
In a recent development, the Indian Coastal Guard (ICG) and the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) have officially entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening maritime cooperation.
As stated by the Defence Ministry's official release, the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was formally signed at the Coast Guard Headquarters in New Delhi. The signatories of the MoU were DG Rakesh Pal, Director General of the Indian Coast Guard, and CG Admiral Artemio M Abu, Commandant of the Philippine Coast Guard.
The freshly signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two Coast Guards is strategically tailored to fortify the professional collaboration encompassing Maritime Law Enforcement (MLE), Maritime Search and Rescue (M-SAR), and Marine Pollution Response (MPR).
The operationalization of this MoU stands poised to elevate the cooperative maritime efforts between the two nations, ultimately ensuring the region's waters remain secure, safe, and untainted.
Embarking on an official tour from August 20 to 24, 2023, a delegation comprising five members from the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) is currently in India. Their journey commenced with a visit to Goa, where they had the opportunity to witness the operational prowess of Indian Coast Guard vessels and aircraft in alignment with the 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' initiative.
During their visit, the delegation enjoyed a demonstration flight aboard the Indian Coast Guard Advance Light Helicopter MK-III, providing them firsthand experience of the capabilities. Additionally, they explored the Indian Coast Guard Ship Sujeet, constructed by Goa Shipyard Limited, as outlined in the official release.
