On Monday, Chief Minister N. Biren Singh stated that the arrest of a Myanmarese national, who is a cadre of the Kuki National Army (Burma) (KNA-B), by the Assam Rifles clearly shows the involvement of foreign elements in the Manipur crisis.
Speaking to reporters in Imphal, Biren noted that some people initially doubted the possibility of foreign involvement in the conflict. He praised the Assam Rifles for arresting the foreign national and for uncovering evidence of arms supplies to militants operating in Manipur.
"I really appreciate the activities of the Assam Rifles who arrested one Burmese national, KNA(B). As a Chief Minister, I have been continuously saying since the beginning that the present crisis in Manipur has a foreign hand. Some people believe it, some don't. I appreciate the Assam Rifles for apprehending the foreign national," Singh told reporters in the state capital Imphal today.
The arrested KNA (B) cadre, identified as Thanglinkap, son of Ngampao, is a Myanmarese citizen born in Kolang, Khampat, Myanmar. He was recently apprehended in the Chandel district of Manipur.
Thanglinkap is accused of conducting reconnaissance missions along jungle routes from the Indo-Myanmar border town of Moreh to the Kuki-dominated district of Churachandpur to supply arms.
Meanwhile, the Manipur government has lifted the temporary suspension of internet and mobile data services, including Lease Lines, VSATs, Broadband, and VPN services, in Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Bishnupur, and Kakching districts.
The state government reviewed the current law and order situation and decided to lift the suspension, which had been imposed as a preventive measure in the public interest, according to a government order released on Monday.
The government also urged all internet users to avoid activities that could result in another suspension of internet services.
In two separate orders, the government announced that normal classes would resume in all educational institutions, including private and government-aided schools, colleges, and central institutions.
