Mundra Port in Gujarat, India's largest private port, has achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first in the country to handle over 200 million metric tonnes (MMT) of cargo. According to a company statement, Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) recorded its highest-ever cargo handling in March 2025, processing 41.5 million tonnes and achieving an annual growth rate of 9 per cent. This growth was mainly driven by a 19 per cent increase in container cargo and a 5 per cent rise in liquid and gas shipments.
In the financial year 2024-25, Mundra Port handled 200.7 million metric tonnes (MMT) of cargo, surpassing the 200 MMT mark for the first time—a milestone highlighting India’s growing logistics strength. Meanwhile, Vizhinjam Port in Kerala also achieved a significant milestone by processing over 100,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs).
Throughout the year, APSEZ oversaw a total cargo volume of 450.2 MMT, with container handling increasing by 20% and liquid-gas cargo rising by 9%.
The logistics sector experienced notable growth, with rail volumes rising to 0.64 million TEUs, an 8 per cent increase, and GPWIS volumes reaching 21.97 MMT, reflecting a 9 per cent growth.
