Mumbai has heightened its security measures after authorities received a social media threat warning of potential Hindu-Muslim riots, arson, and bombings in specific areas during Eid celebrations on March 31 and April 1. A warning was issued for areas like Dongri, explicitly mentioning the potential for violent acts by "some illegal Rohingya/Bangladeshi/Pakistani infiltrators" during Eid celebrations. The warning post notably tagged Navi Mumbai police's handle, bringing it to their attention.
According to an official in the report, Navi Mumbai authorities alerted Mumbai police, leading to heightened security across the city. Patrols were intensified in areas such as Dongri. However, the official confirmed no suspicious activity had been detected.
"Apart from Mumbai police personnel, the Crime Branch, the Anti-terrorism squad and special branch are also on heightened vigil," he said. The Navi Mumbai police reacted to the warning note, stating, "Thank you for contacting Navi Mumbai Police; please send your mobile number for further information regarding your tweet."
As per the Free Press Journal, the cyber cell has initiated a technical investigation to track down the individual responsible for creating and sharing the threatening social media post.
The same individual also sent a similar message to the Delhi Police and Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. In another post, he cautioned the capital’s police to remain vigilant during Eid on March 31 - April 1, warning that “some illegal Rohingya/Bangladeshi/Pakistani Muslims may cause Hindu-Muslim riots or bomb blasts in Chandni Chowk, Jama Masjid, Jahangirpuri.”
Neither the Delhi Police nor the UP Police, who were tagged in the post, have yet to respond to the warning message on social media. In anticipation of Eid celebrations and the final Friday prayers in east Delhi, the Delhi police had already bolstered security arrangements.
An officer, quoted by news agency PTI, stated, “We have briefed the staff of every police station in the east district to maintain law and order in the area. We will ensure that maximum staff will be on patrolling and proper pickets will be done. Police presence will be complete.”
