Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin reviewed the progress of bilateral cooperation across political, economic, defence, energy, space, skill mobility and people-to-people sectors during their talks in New Delhi. The two leaders also exchanged views on major regional and global developments, including the conflicts in West Asia and the Black Sea region. Modi reiterated that dialogue and diplomacy remained the way forward to resolve conflicts. He said India stood ready to support peace efforts.

The Ministry of External Affairs said the two leaders welcomed Russia’s International Industrial Exhibition, INNOPROM India. The exhibition was held in India for the first time from the 9th of this month until today. Both leaders highlighted its importance in expanding trade and industrial cooperation between the two countries. Modi and Putin also visited the exhibition and interacted with participants.

India and Russia agreed to strengthen their Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership. The partnership has continued to grow despite geopolitical uncertainties and has shown resilience amid changing global conditions. The discussions focused on maintaining momentum in key areas of cooperation and further strengthening bilateral engagement.

Putin also invited Modi to Russia for the 24th India-Russia Annual Summit. Modi accepted the invitation. The dates for the summit will be finalised according to the convenience of both sides. The annual summit is expected to provide another platform for the two leaders to review bilateral ties and discuss important regional and international developments.

During the meeting, Modi presented Putin with a Russian translation of the ancient Tamil classic Thirukkural, written by poet-philosopher Thiruvalluvar. The Central Institute of Classical Tamil published the translated edition. The gesture highlighted the cultural and literary links between India and Russia.

Putin arrived in New Delhi in the early hours of the day to attend the BRICS Summit, which begins tomorrow. His visit comes amid continued discussions between India and Russia on strategic cooperation and major global issues. The two countries have maintained close engagement despite the wider geopolitical uncertainty.

Modi is also scheduled to meet Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian this evening. The meeting assumes significance amid the prevailing situation in West Asia. Regional developments are expected to feature prominently in their discussions. Modi is also scheduled to meet United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres during his engagements in the national capital.
